Description

Asclepias variegata is known as the Red Ring milkweed. This beautiful plant prefers dappled light and is typically found on forest path edges. We have had great success growing them next to tall fences that shade them some of the day. They also grow very well in pots kept in shady areas. After first frost, these pots must be brought into cold but not freezing spaces to prevent the roots from freezing completely.

To start this plant from seed, you must stratify the seeds or use the soak/cut method with a paper towel. Seedlings are best strengthened indoors and moved outside once a few set of leaves are established. Second year tubers produce multiple stalks.

This ecotype is originally from Maryland, but has overwintered in our soil through the harsh Pennsylvania Winter.

Reaches from 2 to 4' tall.

5 seeds per packet
